JamesLordPhotography.com is a great example of the ease of a CMS like Drupal. In this case, James Lord approached us to give him a web presence. Like a surprisingly large number of artists, James had an extensive resume and a fat portfolio, but no website on which to showcase it all. Therefore, all of his work was via word of mouth, and he had no way to further market his talents other than a business card.
Drupal was a great way to provide James with an easy template to showcase his work. Being a total laymen when it came to having any sort of webmastering knowledge, we were able to easily consult James on how he could take over the controls of his site after we finished designing, building and incorporating it with content. So far, ChuckPalahniuk.net "The Cult" is easily the largest site we have had the privilege to work on. The challenges such a site presents also provides us with a constant flow of inspiration. Planning and maintaining a site with a large community brings a unique set of challenges that typical sites don't have to even consider.
In addition to a variety of more-common features, we also have to consider improved tools for moderation and administration. How do you handle problem members (trolls)? What do you do to make sure abusive or illegal content is swiftly removed? How do you communicate with your user-base? SuitUpScene.com was an exciting opportunity to work on a site that celebrates movies! In fact, it celebrates them so much that the entire website is dedicated to a very small yet passionate sub-category called the "suit-up" scene. Therefore, the site operates as a database of these scenes, cataloging actors, run-times and even included items (such as grenades, throwing knives, sunglasses and more!)
